Creating New Roads

The map below shows the proposed road paths that should be built from an existing school out to main roads in the area. Population demographics, land use,  slope, and location of preexisting roads were all weighed out to determine the least-cost pathway from the roads to the school. This would mean the intended road would need to pass through highly populated areas; be on relatively flat ground; and not interfere with any preexisting structures and roads. The layers created to represent the target factors were then put into a raster calculator to show the highest suitable pathway between two points. In this case the two points would be from main roads to the school. Three pathways were gleaned from the the suitability analysis for new access roads to a school.
